If you are a patient of record and are having a dental emergency at a time the office is closed, please call the main office number (503-625-3767) and you will be given instructions on how to reach our doctor on call. We will contact you as soon as possible.

Dental Insurance

We will help you maximize your benefits from your dental insurance. We can work with most insurance plans. Our practice does not belong to any HMO, DMO or capitation insurance plans. We are unwilling to cut the corners it would take to accept their significantly reduced fees. We will not give in to insurance company pressures to compromise our care to boost insurance company profits. If you are not sure what type of plan you have, we will be happy to call your insurance company for you and explain your benefits to the best of our ability.

In an effort to provide the highest quality dental care and to clarify our position on filing your insurance benefits, we would like to share some facts about dental insurance with you:

  • We will do our best to help you maximize your insurance benefits.
  • Our goal is to recommend what we feel is best for you, your teeth, and your overall health, not what will boost your insurance company’s profits. Your insurance is a contract between your employer and the insurance company. The quality of your dental insurance (the services covered and amount covered) has to do with how much is paid for the plan. While we attempt to estimate your dental benefits to the best of our ability, this is ONLY an estimate, and should not be depended on as the final decision. Should questions arise, it is best to contact your insurance company directly.
  • You may receive notification from your insurance company stating dental fees are "higher than usual, customary and reasonable (UCR)." Often the UCR fee schedules that the insurance companies set are arbitrary. Different insurance companies have different UCR fee schedules for the same geographical area. It is not uncommon for the same insurance company to have different UCR fee schedules in the same dental office under different insurance plans they offer. Insurance companies usually will not release the exact process or the dates the UCR fees were tabulated, but a basic outline of the process follows. An insurance company surveys a geographical area, calculates an average fee and then takes that fee and considers it customary (Included in this survey are discount clinics and managed care facilities, which bring down the average). Most doctors in private practice will have fees defined as “above usual and customary and reasonable” by insurance companies.
  • Many insurance plans tell patients they will be covered “up to 80% or up to 100%” but do not clearly specify this is based on their fee schedule allowances, annual maximums or limitations. Insurance companies do not cover all dental services.

Payment options

Our computer has over 1000 insurance plans on file and tracks the payment schedules for many of them. Our staff will estimate your insurance coverage at each visit and ask you to pay only the difference each time. Please note that this is an estimate only. If there is an additional balance due after the insurance claim is paid, we will bill you.
